Tbirds lose again, Showare gets high marks

Seattle lost again on Saturday night in Edmonton 4-1 to the Oil Kings.  From what I have been told, Seattle played a tad bit better but still had a dreadful start to the game getting out-shot 16-6 in the first period and falling behind 3-0. I haven't watched the game yet but I'm going to assume it was a lot of the same except they didn't fall apart after the rough first period.

Seattle also announced a trade in which Center Sean Aschim was acquired from Moose Jaw for a conditional Bantam draft pick.  Aschim played for Kelowna last season and had logged 4 goals and 5 assists in 13 games for the Jaw this season. I hope Aschim can help get some offense going because at this point I would hate to see him take minutes away from younger players who need to play and get better.

Last but not least.  I little plug for a website called Stadium Journey that posted a review of their experience at ShoWare Center for opening night.  It is nice to see the Sho get a nice review and even nicer that we have a good barn to call our home.  The review can be found here. Take a look at it if you get a chance.

At a minimum the game was painful to watch, especially when a certain guy on the defense was near the puck.

It was nice to see a few of the players who don't get a ton of ice time getting out there.

And for ShoWare - the facility is awesome and I agree with the reviews completely, but I don't know if it's the Sho or the Tbirds who control the music in there because during games it's absolutely f'ing horrible.

OMG, Travis, I couldn't agree with you more. I'd sort of forgotten about it until I want to Victoria - the music really does make a difference.

I loved in that review of ShoWare (which, again, I totally agree with) they mentioned the parking situation at Kent Station. Kent Station appears to be hell-bent on not participating in anything that might bring paying customers into the area.

I 'third' the sentiments of the past two posts up there. The game night audio/visual production is the only thing that our fantastic arena is lacking (other than a winning team), but it is indeed lacking in a major way. And I totally agree with that statement that 'music really does make a difference. The stuff they put on during play stoppage does NOTHING to build the intensity of the game at key moments, which is important to both fans and 16-21 y.o. players alike. Can't count how many times my friend has said 'I haven't heard this song in years' when some obscure 90's song comes on right before a power play begins. Drives me nuts.

I agree on the game night music, it stinks. I understand that the "Hey Song" is tradition but I say just play that when a goal is scored not when they come out before the period. Play "Thunderstruck" from AC-DC since we are the Thunderbirds and also get rid of the strumming guitar when the names are anounced. Don't you just love Thunderbird fans, hey we got to complain about something huh?:)

On a major plus note, at the last game before the road trip, we finally got to see replays of everything. Kudos third av department for finally doing this.

'certain guy on defense'...Sutter?

As for the arena, the best part of the hockey game is the music. What else do we have for entertainment except being beaten by three goals or more?

Off topic but is up with Thom Beuning's blog about the team? His site hasn't been updated since the draft. Does the local media even cover the T-birds anymore?

Pickard is overrated. Pickard gave up five goals on 22 shots during 11/8 game? It's time to start Cotton and give him playing time, other than coming in to save Pickard.

Everyone has a right to their opinion... I suppose.

some people just have no idea... picks is probably the best all around goalie in the dub, he would excel on a team that could score goals, or play defense in front of him. im all for trading him, ive said that since last year, go out and get some stud 16 year old for him. i agree, its time to see what you have in cotton. whats really scary to me is how little depth we have with the 16s or 17s. we will have to make a bunch of moves with the amount of 19s we have. next year could end up being worse if we dont make some moves in the near future. im all for building around trook and jacobs when he comes back.

Nice to get a win last night! Just sayin'!

Next year could be worse? Thanks for ruining my day.

I agree...Showare is a great arena. I have a few problems with staff, like those that allow people to return to seats during a long play without a whistle. However, that problem is minor compared to the environment. Personally, I don't like the visiting team "sucks" chant but have found areas in the arena where my young children can't hear it as in other parts. The arena is the plus for this season.

The team is on a roll...however, they were on a roll last season as well but failed to win at home with such a great and loyal crowd.
