Seattle catches Everett, Marleau Jersey

By virtue of the 4-1 win last night in Everett, Seattle has now caught Everett for 7th in the conference. Everett has assisted the process by losing 10 straight.

This could be a huge development. While I wouldn't give Seattle a great chance to beat Kelowna (or Kamloops) in the first round of the playoffs should they earn the 7th seed, I give them a much better chance in that series than I do against Portland.

Seattle played with good energy last night, something that isn't always easy to do when facing a packed house at Comcast Arena. The game had a chance to get away from them when they nearly killed off a 2 man advantage and Everett took the lead 1-0 but they answered back and scored almost immediately to tie the game before Roberts Lipsbergs gave them the lead with just 13 seconds to go in the first period.

A big win for Seattle and a chance tonight to get points against a Vancouver team that beat them Friday in Kent. A win would get the TBirds 2 points clear of Everett.

Other notes - Please don't forget to donate to the Ronald McDonald House for the Hockey Challenge. Also, a good fan and reader of the blog has donated a 1997 road Patrick Marleau jersey (#14 his draft jersey) that is SIGNED by Marleau and is being raffled off by the Booster Club. Tickets are $5 and the money will be split between the Education Fund and the Ronald McDonald House. Check the Booster Club desk for tickets. I'm not sure if tickets will be available tonight but they will certainly be available on the night of the Challenge on the 23rd.

Just want to thank everyone for all the positive comments they've posted here after the T-birds win 2 in a row and earn 5 of 6 pts this weekend. Oh, wait, those are crickets I hear. I hope they lose soon so you can all get back to your b*tching. Okay, it's fine to complain when they lose but why no praise when they win?

Let's get one thing straight.. They didn't win the Memorial Cup over the weekend, now did they? They beat a spiraling Everett team and the team that is easily the worst team in the league. Congrats boys on the wins, both of which were wins they should have gotten. That said, this weekend doesn't help us forget January, whatsoever.

And there it is! Back to b*tching about winning now. That worst team in the league took Portland to OT the day before. It's obvious some fans are wanting this team to fail so they can complain. If they had lost 3 games this weekend, there'd be 10-15 posts lambasting them. Must be a lot of heartbroken posters out there who have to hold on to their whining for another week.

Very productive week-end point wise. No they haven't won the Mem cup (neither did anyone else mind you)but they played well enough to win when they needed to. Btw, a I don't care if they have a streak of 0-8, a win in EvT is never easy.
few things:
-Clutch plays from players including Glover and Lockart.
-interesting line of Delnov, Hickman and Ellliot.
-contrarely to popular belief, the tbirds are decent at limiting shots this year. It was showing again this week-end
-they are physical and are way more efficient on the dump and chase.

Things to improve:
-5 on 5 play. They need to execute better. You can't live or die by your powerplay the way the tbirds are.
-Penalty. They need to cut down on time spent in the box. They will get killed if they keep at it in playoffs. I can live with roughing calls, I can tolerate holding, tripping et (the lazy penalties) but the unsportmanlike conduct stuff (snowing a goalie after the wistle)....that has to stop.

Haha,so true!!
The "know it all" complainers have been silenced. Although I suspect it's really just 1 or 2 loser trolls that keep posting and reposting that crap about the GM, coach and players. And from the content of most of the posts I highly doubt he has even played minor hockey, let alone coached or managed. Get a life, it's just junior hockey. Enjoy the game like the real fans.

I admit I do my fair share of complaining but that is because I want the team to do good and for that great T Bird logo on the front of the sweater to mean something to all hockey fans. 5 in 6 points I will take and lets go get the 4 points next weekend as well. By the way, I did donate to Tylers team and encourage everyone else to that can also to donate.

So January was not a very good month in the W-L department. But January is over with. Can't go back and re-write history. But the team is responding to the challenge they now have...to get into the playoffs. They have something to play for in February and March. They are not a top end team but they have been entertaining at home recently. Lots of clsoe games and they're earning points.

WOOO HOOOO...they beat two teams that are a combined 41 games under 500 (after this weekend)....let's all do cartwheels.

The TBIRDS are SUPPOSE to and SHOULD win those games.

The same holes against the upper echelon teams are still there. Don't get too excited

No one is getting excited. You're right, they beat two teams they should beat. So give them credit. The reality is you and others would have preferred they lost so you can come here and trash them. Even your last post is a backhanded way of ripping them. I'm guessing if your wife got only 5 of 6 lottery numbers right you'd complain about that too.

I don't think anybody here is thinking that the tbirds are going to contend to the MEM cup this year after this past week-end. They did enough to get 5 out of 6 pts on a 3 game week-end. That is good, even if they played Van and Evt. Someone said on another thread that they did not control their destiny at this point ....not true. Now they have a decent schedule to insure they make the playoffs, so the players have to make the most of it.

A word on the Jan streak of losses. I was looking at the standings and I realized something. The series of losses is actually irrelevant on a standing point of view. there is no point to dwell on it. As of right now they are 20 points away from Vic. that means that out of theses 28 missed pts they would of needed to play about .715 to be currently tied with Vic.

"The series of losses is actually irrelevant from a standing point of view." No more pathetic statement ever made by the Tbird apologists on the ole blogaroonie. Enjoy the 2 games we'll see at home in the playoffs and to get your own seat for those two games don't forget to write a check for next years season tickets. Go Birds!

Complaining about complainers? I bet you hope they lose so people complain so you can complain about them!

Mr Tell13 said...

@ anon 4:51
So do you care to explain how it matters at this point that they might be lets say 5 or 20 pts behind Victoria? and then explain what games they win in that Jan stretch when they play 6 road game in really though arenas (Portland, Kamloops, Spokane and Tri city)
Then you have 4 games at home against really though division rivals (Portland, Spokane and Tri)
Then the last 5 are games against Evt and Vic.
So lets say they get 2 pts out of the road games, adding 4 pts from the 4 games at homes and they win 3 out of 5 from the last group of games. That's a total of 12 pts. Btw that is being very optimistic in possible results. So where woul they be if that would of happened? 8 pts back from Victoria. And yeah, I get that they have a bit of a thougher schedule then te tbirds down the stretch. But I still don't like the odds of cathing them with that overwelmingly rosy scenario.
You can always root for Everett, i'm sure that with that "new philosophy" of going hard at the net, they will be a really big opponent to Portland. (seems like its been working against Seattle ...not)

I have to agree with those that are saying that T-birds should be competing and winning games against these lower tiered teams. Nothing to celebrate with the kids actually doing what they need to do. However, I will congratulate them on their wins...good weekend!

I'll add...who else has supported the Tyler's team and T-birds in the Ronald McDonald House challenge? I have. For those bitchin about the complaining, I challenge you all to do so as well.

Farwell's tenure at Philadelphia ---losing record, team never made the playoffs.. Just the facts.

Hello I'm a complainer. I've been hoping for this team to do better for most of the last 24 years, not sure when Farwell took over but he's been hear close to that entire duration. So yeah if I had my way he'd be down the road. However, I will also say that they seem to have made improvement in their drafting in the recent past. If they can sign some of the top picks (potential reward for their abysmal record) that would be "nice". Even though I'm no fan of the GM, I will admit that they've had better drafting in recent times. Delnov and Lipsbergs are two excellent Euro pics. Theodore for a what was it 3rd or 4th round pick is very good. Troock was a good pick, he's just been injured most of the time. I'm going to vent but yeah I'd like to see them continue to get better and yeah I'm glad they had a decent weekend, will I do back flips? No, might have 20 years ago but I've followed Farwell for too long to react to get to excited.
