Tbirds hit Holiday Break

I wasn't able to attend the game on Saturday night due to a Holiday Party, so I don't have very many thoughts on the 3rd period collapse on Saturday except that it looked bad on my phone.

I was able to catch the game on Friday night via webcast.  The biggest takeaway from the weekend is that Tri-City is a damn good team. The Americans have now won 8 straight and have only lost 2 games at home all season. Seattle looked poised to pick up 2 points on Saturday night but completely melted down in the 3rd period.

Tbirds are off until Tuesday the 27th. I want to wish everyone a very happy Holidays. The players will spend the week at home and hopefully come back refreshed and ready to gear up for a playoff run.

One final note.  I have updated the banner at the top of the page to reflect the new date of the Hockey Challenge 2012.  I will once again be raising money for the cause and I will provide additional details as I get them.

Happy Holidays to you Tyler. Let's hope the Birds come back after the break energized and focused on a run to make the playoffs. The Saturday game was just horrible, I saw some of coach K's comments after the game, he is not a happy camper nor should he be, I hope he can rally these kids in the second half.

The meltdown starts starts with the coach, the greatest motivator in the game is ice-time.This team has way too many lazy, selfish and uninspired players who are getting way to much ice-time,over and over, they will not change because they still get put out on the ice every other shift.Hopefully the break helps and everyone comes back ready to work hard and become a team or big changes will have be made to keep this team competitive.Merry Chrismas Tyler

Coach K even said players took shifts of and weren't back checking at the start of the third. jacobs was a prime example of that on Feser's goal. Jacobs also sat a good ten minutes on the bench after that too.

not sure about lazy or selfish but they sure rely on Pickard to bail them out all the time.Jon- Jacobs may have sat a shift or two but not 10 min. more like 5 in the 3rd period.

Oh my...I have too many comments about Saturday's game. It was the first game that I took my kids to this year and it was full of energy the first period. The second period the tri-city squad had a few good scoring opportunities that they failed to capitalize on. The third just continued the downward slide the second period started. The team just had a complete meltdown and failed to play like they did during the first period. I hope they can rebound by the 30th. My kids need to see a win, 12 games in two seasons and still no wins for the t-birds during those games.

What can motivate the team? Tell them that a four and six year old is still waiting to see a win in over a dozen games! It's a good thing the kids love the sport because this is depressing the old guy.

Tyler, Mike posted his grades - interested in your take mid-way through. Are you planning on grading the team?

I'm not planning to do grades. My feelings - our veterans have not performed as well as expected and that is the reason why this team is still struggling to find a breakthrough.

I'd make a comment about Mike's grades, but I better just refrain.

With the exception of the 2 16 year olds & Trock & Honey, EVERYONE is a veteran so what you ae saying is the whole team needs to improve is that correct? If so I agree 100%. I beleive this team will become much better in the second half, Coach K's system will start to work & the PP should improve. Don't forget last year the PP was pretty good. PP is missing a D man who can carry the puck thru the neutral zone & once the puck is controlled get shots thru to the net (can anyont say Dillon). Shea T. is going to become a good QB on the powerplay but right now he is not there. I dont believe a huge shakeup is necesssary that will come next year wehn all the 19 year olds need to be moved.

I think that is fairly accurate. Certainly some veterans need to step up more than others. Gallimore, Noebels, Lockhart... all are players I expected more out of. I've been pleasantly surprised by guys like Deagle, Alos, Aschim, Rouse and Lund to various degrees.

certainly those 3 need to be better but everyone needs to pick it up. Guys like Alos & Elliot need to start producing, skating around and accomplishing nothing is as bad as not working hard. Work smart and hard should be a team motto.

Alos has played MUCH better the last couple of weeks and he is probably your most responsible defensive forward.... so while I would love to see more points, I can't say I really have a problem with how he is playing.
