Quick Note and shameless HC plug

Already hearing some "grumblings" of some impending moves by the Thunderbirds. Keep your eyes open for things to happen in the next week.

Tbirds got a nice win down in Portland and a tough loss at home. This team is basically treading water right now.

Here is another of the many reminders. Please donate to the Hockey Challenge on my behalf. Last year my friends, family and fellow Tbird fans helped me personally raise over $1000 and I would love to push that over $1500. I know times are still tough for a lot of people so please do not feel obligated... but even if you can only pitch in $5 it will go to a very worthy cause.

Once again... click on the banner at the top of the blog and make sure you make reference to the Hockey Challenge, Tyler Hunnex, Team IEB.

As of this moment, I don't have any idea whether I will be playing in the "Celebrity Game". I will keep everyone updated on that as it develops.

Well I hope the "grumblings" of impending moves help the team, because you don't want certain players asking to leave. If that happens.................

I think (know) there will be a huge trade,
Some unhappy kids on the team that have asked to be moved.

Anonymous said...

I guess huge trade is subjective. If you're just moving two mediocre, selfish players who have asked for a trade..not really huge.

No, I am talking huge, like we might be starting a new Goalie soon.

I'm speaking for them (which obviously is not fair) when I say... I think they are keeping Sanvido around because he is 17 and at this point he is probably better off practicing with the team here and getting some minutes in the WHL than going back to the BCMML and playing a lot.

I really don't know that he has anything left to prove in the BCMML and it's time to test him in the WHL to determine whether he is going to turn into a player or not.

Just an educated guess though.

Tyler,
Regarding the above comment - aren't you forgetting the "reassign to Junior A" option.

Thunnex said...

Not so much "forgetting" I'm just not 100% sure that does him or the Tbirds much good. But yes... that is certainly an option just to get him some more game minutes.

minutes on this team. Lol, coach gave Beacker one shift last game. I'm sure Austin saying thanks learned alot!! Team has two defensemen doing nothing.Yeah they practice get in the best shape of their lives, but the real learning is the game.
You have one defenseman played 25 games, (-12) and cost the team average of 2.20 PIMPG. What 2 goals per game, when hes out there.
Another one at 28 games played with (-9). 3 goals per game hes played.
Give the other defense guys more time and see what they can do.(who knows)
You can look good in practice and game time look average.

I don't attend practice but I have to imagine that playing time is earned and not given. I'd have to guess that if Baecker was "beating" other defensemen in practice, he would be getting more playing time.

How do you (Know)Picks is going to be moved?

Anonymous said...

I can't tell you how I know, but the info is solid.
Nothing is for sure unless there is a good deal,
But he wants out.

These types of rumors are hilarious. I'm not saying they are "false" but they sure are entertaining. Suffice to say I'd be shocked if Pickard was traded and I haven't heard any rumors of that kind.

We will talk next week and I will tell you why.

Thunnex said...

Sounds good to me. I'm all ears.

I have a feeling you won't be "hearing" from this guy next week. Outside of Pickard and Jacobs I don't really see anything that would suprise me. This team is bad but they still need people in the building. Getting blown out every night isn't going to do it. If this team was going to move Picks it would be next season. Although hey were are being dominated every night with Pickard, and with the worst GM in the WHL maybe we can get back a few more 15 and 16's that won't pan out.

Can we fire Rob YET?

Thunnex said...

You can correct me if I'm wrong... but the last time I checked... I didn't have the power to fire coaches.

So I have been following your blog for a little but now, I find your opinions to be fair and you don't seem to have an agenda. The question I have for you is a simple one; Does this team have enough talent to compete in this division? I know the answer for this year is no, but what about next year?

In my opinion, I don't think we do. That's not a knock on the boys, I just don't think they match up with the other US division teams.

We will be fighting for the 8th playoff spot this year, which is an improvement from last year, but is that good enough? I have a tough time believing that we will competing for the US division next year. I see us competing for the 4th or 5th playoff spot.

If it is basically the same team next year, what should we expect? I know its probably too early to speculate but honestly, can we expect this team to do much without a few new talented faces?

Tyler, I am with you that these rumors are hilarious. They really serve no purpose either; except to get everyone all wired up. We know the team will send out and email as soon as a deal goes down, but until the ink is signed NOTHING is for sure. Good luck hitting your goal for the HC. I hope to see you on the ice!

Tyler - I think if you raise $10K for theHockey Challenge you get to fire a T-Bird Employee.... but I could be wrong about that. :)

Thunnex said...

to stoykoj... quite honestly... at current I don't think this team has enough talent to make a run next season. Which is why I have always advocated trading away assets this season that might improve you next season....

to last anonymous... I mean... I could always make a request right?? haha

Having never played hockey, how important is the captain of the team? It sure seems to me like we need to pick one and let him lead. Or maybe it doesn't matter at all. But this team is lacking something. Why not try giving Toomey the C for a few games in a row and let him try and pull this group of guys together?

Thunnex said...

I think it matters a little bit if you have the wrong captain but overall it probably doesn't mean that much.

The fact that Toomey and Dillon are both good leaders is a plus for the team in general.
