Friday update...

Not really much to update on today. Tonight will obviously be a bit of a somber game as the Silvertips will no doubt have a moment of silence for the death of Jordan Mistelbacher. The two teams will then try to focus as best they can on picking up two points and your guess is as good as mine how either team will respond and play tonight.

I am bad luck attending games in Everett (I've never seen a Tbirds win at the Comcast Arena) so fans will be delighted to know that I will not be there tonight!

This is not a game I projected as a win for Seattle when I did my season ending projections earlier this week, so a point or two by the Tbirds would be a bonus.

you didn't miss much... both teams came out very flat in the 1st, with lots of turn overs and lots of time in the neutral zone. Everett picked it up a bit in the
2nd and came out like blazes in the third. The seattle goalie change was a bit late, neither goalie showed up for seattle and the defenses was lacking. I always love a team who can beat Everett and there was no love tonight with a 7-5 loss. My question is how long will the tbirds allow sumner to stay on as head coach with this kind of a season? Thought? ideas?

i dont think sumner should be let go. ive been to every home game this year, and every game in everett, which by the way i felt like i was at a farm with all those stupid cowbells and the three big cows that sat behind me that didnt know anything about hockey. a common theme there. anyways, our defense was garbage, worst game defensive game ive seen. warg, and shappert overplayed pucks all night, haber looked lost, dillon and chaffin both played the worst games ive seen them play, even hickey didnt seem to be on his game. as for the offense, besides the first two minutes, we looked like a team that hasnt ever played together, i was really big on the like of sena, luke, and silvester. what happened to that line??? other than our first line, who didnt play that well anyways, and chris cloud, no one played well. with all that being said, last night was a very tough environment to play in. it was emotional to say the least. i dont think you can blame the coach for anything last night. i thought with all that was going on, it was going to be a win for everett anyways. ellington was my vote for best player on the ice, he is a great leader, and someone who knows how to play defense and throw his body around. man, the birds can use someone like that, and not to mention another scorer, but thats a different story. hopefully we come out better tonight, im sure we will, i hope we dont take dumb penalties, i hope the game isnt even close. i think our team is much better then we are playing.

what makes you think Sumner has job security? Just curious. I like the guy but the numbers tell the story.

I'll just throw this in there real quick and then I am headed down to the game...

Sumner has plenty of job security.

Thunnex, could you go into a tiny bit of detail why Sumner has job security? coaching is all about numbers, and ya ya he is friends with Russ Farwell and Jim McTaggert is pretty solid, but what makes you say that? There is a boat load of talent on the team...and lots of buts. Maybe you know something we dont? I mean Constantine in everett got asked to leave er took a job in the AHL. What protects Sumner? I like the guy but it would be nice to see seattle go further in the playoffs or even make the playoffs. and heck yea, I am a tbirds fan so this isn't about dis'in the birds.

games like tonight, is why he has job security. i thought the tbirds out hustled, and out played the tips. what people forget is that this team is filled with young kids. and this year was a very wierd scehedule. you forget that more than 2/3 of the games were road games. i think wait till the end of the year to say whether he should be fired or not. i think he needs one more year atleast, you forget, we have a young team, we had a young team last year. next year we will have a full season in showare. lets be patient with 16, 17, 18, 19, and 20 year olds

but we were playing a team right above us in the US standings, we should out hustle them. And Seattle doesn't have the youngest team. There are other teams with much younger players. I will give you that I think Sumner will get one more year. But then what, who would be the dream coach? and not just because they are a nice guy. I just want some insight into the situation that maybe I don't have :) We should be all over the other teams but at times they look like high level midgets out there not Major Junior players. just trying to get answers based on substance not emotion.

I covered this extensively back in October. Here is a link to the post.

Clearly, I don't think the issue is going away... but I haven't really changed my opinion since the start of the season. I think the Tbirds aren't having a great season, but they aren't having a poor season either and you don't fire coaches with Sumner's record based on .500 seasons. Just my opinion...
